Would you like to see more gratitude, beauty, and creativity in your life this year?

Then I invite you to join me in this creative project that is very dear to my heart.

I’m calling it “Art in the Ordinary”.

It will be a community of people creating art throughout 2022 from monthly sketch prompts, with the goal of practicing gratitude by noticing the beauty in the ordinary, common things in each of our daily lives.

And I would love for you to be a part.

Sign up to receive the next prompt email!

It goes out on July 1.

If you are joining a bit later in the year but still want to sketch the earlier prompts, they are listed below.

  • JANUARY PROMPT : the view from your window

  • FEBRUARY PROMPT : an item of clothing you enjoy wearing

  • MARCH PROMPT : a favorite cozy drink

  • APRIL PROMPT : a weed

  • MAY PROMPT : a little luxury that costs less than $10

  • JUNE PROMPT : something you found on a walk

Sketchers from around the world are already sharing beautiful sketches they’ve created from the prompts! Check out their work on Instagram by looking at the hashtag #artintheordinary2022.

In 2021 I often found myself craving a change of scene or feeling discontented. But I was unable to step away from the daily responsibilities of life to try and find contentment elsewhere.

And that was a really good thing! Because it’s so easy to believe the lie that happiness or gratitude is found in something new, somewhere else. The truth is that there is so much beauty and goodness around us now, in the ordinary and common. We just have to practice seeing and appreciating it. And if we don’t practice seeing it where we are at right now, we won’t be able to see and appreciate it wherever we go.

I didn’t have to change my situation, just what I focused on.

So this year I wanted to practice gratitude through sketching the ordinary, common things in my daily life. Through taking time to see the art in the ordinary.

And I so loved the idea of doing this with a community of people! Together we could share the beauty and joy we find with each other, and encourage each other to practice gratitude daily.

Does any of this resonate with you?

Yes? Then I would love for you to participate! All you have to do is sign up at the button below. I’ll send out a monthly email with:

  • A prompt to sketch a specific but ordinary everyday subject
  • An inspirational quote about gratitude, contentment, or beauty in the ordinary
  • A brief thought on how to practice these things through sketching

This is an absolutely pressure-free project. The sketch prompts will be common, ordinary things: Your favorite mug. A bug you found in the house. We aren’t going for the exotic or complicated here! You can sketch the prompt just once a month, or five times a month. You can sketch for 5 minutes of 5 hours. Do whatever works for you and truly helps you practice gratitude and see beauty!

Finally, every month via email and Instagram I’ll invite you to share your artwork with others, so that together we can discover art in the ordinary in 2022.

I’m so excited to create with you this year.
